My full HW4 D: drive installation drama - can you help?

Hi all,

The 500GB D: drive on my Windows 10 Hauptwerk computer (HW 4, that is), which stores all the organ installations, was getting a bit full, so I asked the local computer shop to install a larger D: - 1 terrabyte.

They've tried all day to "clone" its contents and transfer it to the new drive - no luck. Am I right in thinking that Hauptwerk's security features are stopping this process? Is this true?

If you have experience with replacing the D: storage drive on your Hauptwerk computer, what was your process? Did you have to uninstall/reinstall Hauptwerk 4?

And most importantly, did this process involve the step of requiring a new HW Licence update from Brett Milan from MDA?

Hi
Never had such a problem. Try to transfer your files not all at the same time.
Verify if the Disk has NFTS or FAT 32 or EXFAT format. FAT 32 is not good.
Hope it functions !

Thanks Dominique -

Interim Update: all files on the D: drive have now been successfully copied to the new D: drive. The owner of the computer shop took the PC home overnight, and without much trouble copied all - all files means, "the installation of un-encrypted and encrypted organs I own". Seems the employee and the 'stubborn' file name determination of Windows 10 were the issues.

In a few hours the computer returns home to me, and I can give the final verdict: whether or not Hauptwerk, and the USB Dongle licence "police" accepts the changes to my computer.

If you copy the complete contents of a drive, you do not copy this "inside the Windows operating system", you exit Windows, and you use the basic DOS command structure - whether you use a "cloning program" or whether you handle this job manually, using DOS commands. So the issue of choosing NTFS or FAT32 etc., file structures within Windows, is not at play. In DOS, at a basic level, the two main command choices are "copy disk" (copy D:/) or "copy all files" (copy *.*)

FINAL UPDATE:

The computer shop owner came and returned my updated machine. All is OK. The lesson is, that the USB Hasp Dongle for HW4 only looks at the Hauptwerk program installation and the Licence for encrypted organs --- all on the "main drive" or C:/ drive. It is not interested in the D:/ drive. All organs, including encrypted organs, loaded and opened successfully from the computer's NEW D:/ drive - no problems encountered (so far).

Thanks for reading and responding to all of you!
