Audio Interface and Speakers

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing well.

In my hunt for looking for the perfect audio interface, I have been looking for something that will allow me to connect the speakers that I have on hand to HW. The problem is that I don't know how to connect bare wire/banana plug speakers to the interface. The speakers need an amplifier, of course, but I can't seem to find an application that will allow me to do this. And when I think I find a solution, I also seem to find something that confuses me a bit and makes me want to not buy whatever I found.

Can anybody guide me through with this? I have about 4 speakers I want to connect. I have a lot more available in case I ever want to use my organ for a performance, but for home use, I don't want too many speakers connected.

All the best,

Victor

RE: Audio Interface and Speakers

I do not understand your problem.

Has your computer got speakers or headphones and do they work with HW at the present time?

If not then you need to get this working first.

In order to connect a stereo system to your computer you need a good quality stereo amplifier. You initially connect your two best speakers to this. Connect the "line out" from your computer to the audio input of your amplifier. You will need a suitable stereo cable to do this.

On your computer "setup" tell it to route all audio to the line out.

HW should then work with this setup.

If you want more speakers I suggest connecting a subwoofer to the above setup will satisfy most users.

I'm trying to connect two Allen HC-14s to hauptwerk and as you may know, those speakers need an amplifier. What i'm trying to figure out is how to connect them to a audio interface. I know how to how to connect them to an amplifier but i'm looking to see if there is an amplifier that has a 1/4" input to connect from the output of a audio interface. I've only ever seen people use studio monitors which makes this whole thing easier since you can connect didirdidiredidirdidirectly to each speaker.

Hi Victor

I am afraid I still do not understand your problem.

You mentioned 1/4" jack plugs and confirmed you have two Allen speakers but I still do not know if you have an amplifier or why you think you need an "audio interface" other than what your computer probably has already.

You did not say whether you have HW installed and working in your computer or whether you can get any audio output from HW at present.

My answer above should be sufficient to get HW playing with your Allen speakers. Get this going first. Only then if your computer's existing audio interface is not good enough for your needs do you need to do anything more.

An audio interface converts the Hauptwerk digital output into analog which can be used by your Allen amplifier. Then the amplifier provides power to the speakers. I don't know how much voltage the Allen amplifier needs, it may require more than most audio interfaces provide, but try it and if it doesn't work you could substitute a stereo receiver which would probably work. You could post the voltage question on https://organforum.com/forums/forum/electronic-organs-midi/classic-church-electronic-organs/43667-allen-organ and find out if the interface output would work with the amplifier model you have. Tell them the model number of the amplifier and what your interface output voltage is, it should be stated in the user guide for whichever interface you have.
