Hereford pilgrimage

I wanted to share a wonderful experience this last weekend. A pilgrimage to Hereford cathedral. I've been playing and listening to this wonderful versatile instrument for some years now but never visited. I thought I would be able to identify each stop used, but listening from a further distance away the sound experience was distinctly different and absolutely thrilling. I visited on Saturday when the choir / and baroque orchestra were practicing Bach's Christmas Oratorio.

Now when I play my sample, I have an overall different understanding of the instrument and the space it occupies, and the real dynamics it can deliver. The 32foot reed and tuba / tromba really delivers some punch.

I encourage anyone else familiar with a digital sample to consider a similar pilgrimage especially if it can replicate my wholly uplifting experience.

Also with Hereford there is the famous Mappa Mundi, a medieval chained library as well as stunning windows, and the choir. I'll post some photos the next Hereford upload as there is no means of attaching them to a forum thread.

RE: Hereford pilgrimage

What a great idea - a pilgrimage to our sample sites!!!

I've been to Amsterdam twice since I bought the Utrecht set and realized how close it is to Amsterdam. I thought both times I should go see it, but my schedules have been too tight. Maybe next time I'll stay an extra night! I was at Salisbury just before buying that set, but nobody was playing the organ while I was there.

Maybe a tour should go on my 'bucket list'! Thanks for the idea, unclegally.
