Selling sample sets

This question has been raised from time to time on the Hauptwerk Forum. Some Hauptwerk users (including myself) have at times thought of selling some of their older little-used sample sets at reduced cost.

The Hauptwerk Forum does not permit advertising of second-hand sample sets - in order not to clash with their desire to maintain the Forum as an exclusive platform for producers of new sample sets because their work helps to support Hauptwerk itself.

Nevertheless, there are those who believe that there could be a small but valuable addition to the Hauptwerk economy through the trade of sample set licences on older instruments. Just recently I parted with the licence on one of my earliest acquisitions as I'd not touched it in years, and have subsequently acquired other more recently-produced instruments which cover that part of the organ repertoire quite well. The purchaser acquired this instrument for less than half of the current new purchase price of that sample set as advertised on the producer's web page.

I note that the Hauptwerk Forum administrators aren't opposed to the trading of sample set licences, and they are happy to facilitate it. In some instances payment a transfer fee may be required. It's just the advertising factor which they won't allow on the Hauptwerk Forum.

With that in mind, I have two questions.

First, is the promotion for sale of second-hand sample sets permitted here on the CCH Forum? If it is not, then my apologies for not knowing this - perhaps it was written in an FAQ page somewhere which I've missed.

Second, what do other readers of the CCH forum think about this?

RE: Selling sample sets

I don't think trading is anywhere prohibited on Contrebombarde. I would be very glad to have a couple of places on the internet to trade sample sets.

I don't think second hand sale is necessarily damaging towards sampleset producers. Second-hand selling creates some flow in the sample set market. The buyer of a second-hand sample set probably finds new sample sets too expensive, and the owner of a sample set will only buy a new one when having sufficient money. So if you block trading, neither would buy a new sample set. Second-hand sales create more space to buy new sample sets.

As a matter of fact, elsewhere on this forum I have posted the Salisbury 1,2 sample set for sale. It is still available. And probably I won't buy a new sample set until I have sold it ;).

RE: Selling sample sets

I will now start the ball rolling. I have 3 sample sets (for now) to sell - all high quality - but I no longer want to keep them. If anyone is interested, please contact me on ajg2011a@me.com or via a forum private message.

Prices are in Australian dollars, and are for the licence only. There may be an additional cost by way of a licence transfer fee, plus postage of media.

Rosales Op. 11 - Portland, Oregon (Sonus Paradisi) - $575
Doesburg Walcker (Sonus Paradisi) - $485
Haarlem surround (Voxus) - $875

RE: Selling sample sets

I would love to buy a used license for the Rotterdam Laurenskerk main organ set/surround sample set. I would be happy to pay the full price for a new one but my finances took a big hit here in Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria.

Unfortunately Rotterdam Main isn't one of the sample sets which I'm planning to part with - sorry!

Thanks, Andrew. I was throwing that out there for any else who might be interested in selling.

RE: Selling sample sets

I should have been a bit more precise. The three which I've listed so far isn't the total - I intend to go through my sample set collection in greater detail and offer a few more for sale. However at this moment I've not yet finalised the rest of the list. I was thinking ahead - but at this stage I do know that I'm keeping Rotterdam. Hope you have some luck from another source!

RE: Selling sample sets

Sorry folks - I've goofed big-time! The two Sonus Paradisi sample sets I've offered here - Doesburg and Portland Rosales - are unencrypted. Under the SP license agreement, as I now know, these sample sets can't be sold. As a result, I must withdraw those two from sale. My apologies - I am new to the process of sample set exchange and learning as I go.

As to the third sample set which I offered - Haarlem - this one is now off the list as it has been purchased.

The current round of sample set sales is now over.
