It's Here! - Playlist feature on Browse and Search Pages

2015-10-01 - Site Updates

Overwhelmingly, people have asked us to provide a way to listen to a continuous stream of music without having to visit a page each time. They also wanted to be able to refine that list in various ways i.e latest uploads, by genre etc.

You asked for it and it's here!

Play List Button

On the top left on the Browse and Advanced Search Results page there is now a button that looks as such:

Clicking on the icon will open a popup playlist of all the pieces shown on the page. This means you will now be able turn specific searches into playlists.

There are also two optional links on the popup list (located on the right of each upload).

Clicking the View button will open a tab on the browser to the piece. Clicking on the Comment button will open a box displaying the upload's comments, as well as the option to comment/reply (shown below).

This way you can continue to listen to the playlist and still comment without any disruptions.

The feature also stores listens/views so the playlist will not affect statistics. We have been made aware that a playlist such as this might cause a decline in user comments/views, but with the extra add-ons and convenient options we believe the opposite.

Is there a way to make it play backwards? When someone posts a piece broken down into parts, it plays in reverse!

Sorry 162_ranks, at the moment the current play positions are based on most recent uploads. We will see what we can do about creating a reverse playlist.

Yes, this would be an excellent feature. When I used to buy CD's there would be a few pieces that I really enjoyed and the rest were not my favorites. With this web site I can compile a list of favorites and play them one after the other, updating them as new ones come out.

One more thing that might be easy and would I think help the commenting community: the ability to subscribe for notifications when you comment. I don't comment as much as I might because I just can't handle the flood of email notifications, but if I turn it off entirely, I get left out of interesting conversations in comment threads that I would like to follow.

Thanks for the idea. For clarification, do you mean the ability to subscribe to each thread individually? Or to only subscribe to blog posts and not music comments? Can you expand on what you're asking for? I'm not quite getting it.

Thanks,

To subscribe to each thread individually. I don't make as many comments as I would like right now because I want to get email notifications so I can participate in discussions on particular threads that really interest me, so I only comment if I want to follow the thread. What I'd like to do is to turn email notifications OFF, but have the ability to subscribe to a particular thread when I comment on it (A "Post and Subscribe" button).

This may be a problem only for me -- I like to post encouraging comments on almost every piece that I listen to and enjoy, but cannot right now because of this.

We're looking into what we can do on this front. It's complicated as you might expect. Thanks for the heads up.

Sure, I understand and really appreciate this "free" service costs you both time and money, and am happy for everything we have. Thank you!
