Barbara Elder (b. 1952) is a longtime resident of Nantucket, Massachusetts and served as music coordinator and director of the choruses at Nantucket High School for 25 years until her retirement in 2012. She has also been active in the island’s musical life in church music, musical theater, and community choruses, including directing the Nantucket Community Music Center Chorus for more than 30 years.

This organ work is one of a series of choral and organ pieces composed by Elder for the 200th anniversary of the Unitarian Church of Nantucket. It was premiered by Marcia Hempel on the historic 1831 William Goodrich organ.
