Description: | Georg Andreas Sorge (1703-1778) was an organist, composer, and, theorist. Sorge's first professional appointment was as court and town organist at Lobenstein, a position that he maintained until his death. Sorge was a prolific composer and not without recognition in his own day. But Sorge is best remembered today for his book "Vorgemach der musicalischen Komposition" which propounded the tertian structure of chords, a theory that is still used in the teaching of harmony today.
His trio's are nowadys the most often played organ compositions of Sorge. But thanks to einer_von_weitem (see http://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/16200 and http://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/16202) I now have a bundle of 'Choralvorspiele' by Sorge. The melody of this one is the same as the melody of "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden", so it fits this period of the year.
The choral melody is played on the Principal 8', which might well be the most beautiful stop of this organ. |
