Composer: Franck, César
Sample Producer: Sonus Paradisi
Sample Set: Caen - St. Etienne Cavaillé Coll
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Romantic
Description:
As I was playing the works by Chauvet, and recalling seeing Franck's dedication to him on the "C Major Fantasie", I suddenly thought of this piece!

I hadn't heard or thought of it in a LONG time, probably because I'd had "lent" my score to someone, and never saw it again... (OK, Trent! Give it back, man!)

I had never really "learned" but I had "sort of played it," and always liked it. Well, I found a very nice edition by Pierre Gouin on the internet, and am very glad that I suddenly remembered this piece!

If you don't know it, it's a real little jewel. It's sad and seductive, and it's dark colors are really more salon music than music for the church. It sounds almost like the music of Lefébure-Wély.

I slightly adapted the registrations to suit Caen, but I think you will really like this, and don't be afraid or embarrassed if it makes you "emotional". It's that "kind" of piece.

While it's not the monumental and mature Franck that we hear in his late works, it IS Franck, and a beautiful example of his melodic and harmonic magic.

So, if you've never heard Franck in an "um-pah, um-pah, piece", get ready! ;-)
