| Description: | When, some years ago, our Pastor assigned the hymn 'O Hear Our Cry, O Lord' to this tune, for our Sunday service, i was quite amazed at its excellence, its beauty, its sophistication. It has been one of my favorite hymns since.
The composer, Richard Dirksen, served as Organist and Choirmaster of the Washington National Cathedral ( D.C. ) from 1977 - 1988. Prior to that he was Assistant Organist and Choirmaster from 1942 - 1964. He wrote that the quality of rejoicing was intended to foreshadow the raising of "such 'Hosannas' forever in [God's] presence and with the company of heaven in the life eternal." |
