Composer: de Grigny, Nicolas
Sample Producer: Sonus Paradisi
Sample Set: St. Maximin, France
Software: Hauptwerk
Genre: Baroque
Description:
This Tierce en taille is a verse from the Gloria of Grigny’s Mass. In French 17-18th liturgy, the choir sang a verse and the organ played a piece corresponding to the next verse, then the choir sang the 3rd verse and so on. The Tierce en taille could correspond to to the « Qui tollis peccata mundi » verse, although there are some scholars’ controversies about this.
Never mind, it’s a beautiful and lyrical deploration where there are both introspective moments and more agitated ones, as it was then the current practice, almost rule, for Tierces en taille.
