Genre: Baroque
Description:
The chorale prelude on “Nun komm der heiden Heiland”, BWV 660, is a well known part of the 18 Leipziger Choräle. BWV 660b is a variant of this well known prelude, found in at least two manuscripts by the hand of Johann Gottfried Walther. It has the cantus firmus unadorned in the pedal, the pedal part of BWV 660 has become the left hand part, and the left hand part of BWV 660 has become (transferred an octave up) the right hand part. It is unknown wether BWV 660b is an earlier version of BWV 660, or an adaption of the latter, made by Walther, or perhaps Johann Tobias Krebs.

BWV 660 is musically more satisfying, but BWV 660b is certainly easier to play.
