Composer: Lohet, Simon
Sample Producer: Prospectum
Sample Set: G. Silbermann Stadtkirche Zöblitz, 1742
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Medieval and Renaissance
Description:
The second fugue of Lohet from Johann Woltz’s Nova musices organicae tabulatura (Basel, 1617). The harmonic progression in this second fugue sometimes sounds a bit strange to our “modern” ears. But for the largest part it sounds like it was written decades later. Transcribing these fugues is already my pet project. Great to be finally able to read tabulatura. Otherwise I would probably never have heard of Lohet. It’s actually strange his work isn’t played more often. I’ve already transcribed fugues three and four and they’re just as worthwhile. Makes me eager to learn the rest of them.

In the original edition there is no indication whether the bass-part should be played on the pedals or not. In this second fugue I think it is almost mandatory to use the pedals, because it sounds better that way. But for the purist, I made a manualiter score as well.
