I first heard this Rondo in a recording by EPB that was released in August 1960, called ‘The Organ in America’. The rondo was recorded on the George Jardine organ (1842), in Zion Episcopal Church, Pierrepont Manor, New York,
(present location of the organ unknown).
Finding the music was quite an undertaking in itself.
William Brown, flutist and composer, settled in 1786 in Philadelphia as one of the managers of the City Concerts. ‘Three Rondos’ seems to be the first keyboard music published in the United States.
The title reads: 'Three Rondos for the piano forte or harpsichord, compofed and humbly dedicated to the Honourable Francis Hopkinson Esqr. by William Brown, Philadelphia, printed and sold by the Author. Price two dollars' [1787]
(from 'Anthology of Early American keyboard music 1787-1830: Part 1’)
