Pierre Cochereau improvised this piece in 1973 and it was transcribed by Frederic Blanc. In this improvisation, he recalls Louis Vierne (1870-1937), who was his predecessor in Notre-Dame at Paris (1900-1937). In 1914, Vierne composed a 'Berceuse' of the melody 'Dodo, I'enfant do'. Cochereau takes up this theme in his inspired improvisation and develops it in the symphonic sense: sound color, chromatic, numerous modulations, subtle harmonies: in this specific style, the art of the poet Pierre Cochereau is fully developed.
My recording of this difficult piece is a tribute to Louis Vierne, who died 80 years ago this year.
