William Faulkes (1863-1933) was born, lived and died in Liverpool. He was the organist of St. Margaret’s Church Anfield for nearly 50 years and was a prolific organ composer, having had 500 works published during his lifetime and a further 300 left in manuscript, bequeathed to Liverpool library.
Many of his early pieces were published by Schott (like this Grand Choeur), but once he was established as a composer they were issued by various publishers in the UK and USA.
From about 1900-1930 he was one of the most frequently performed British composers in the UK., but sadly he has now been almost forgotten.
I dedicate this piece to David (Agnus Dei) who must be one of the greatest advocates and promoters of English organ music. Thanks for all you contribute.
