I know little about Viktor Patrik Vretblad except for his dates: (5 April 1876 — 15 January 1953).
However, our member, Dabchurch has found out some important information, which I include here:
"He worked for the Swedish Post Office and eventually became its Controller. He was also a music critic; a writer about early Swedish music and an organist in Stockholm. He mainly published piano pieces but also composed a number of organ works including a Prelude and Fugue in D Minor."
THANK YOU, David!
"Am Charfreitag" is a "sweetly tortured" and highly poignant Good Friday meditation. The registrational scheme is relatively simple, but you still need the "right" sounds, and combine them with artistry.
Notice the VERY stringy character of the Swell Violine 8'. It is the very first sound that you will hear. I deliberately wanted it's slightly "scratchy" sound, as the sounds for this piece should be "beautiful" but not "comfortable."
If you are in need of a special Good Friday piece, I highly recommend this one to you.
The score is attached below, as well as a photo of Patrik Vretblad are attached below.
