Jan Elsenaar was born in 1967 in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. His first acquaintance with the organ was at a Christmas concert in Zwijndrecht. It was at this occasion that the 3 years old Jan fell in love with the majestic sound of the king of the instrument - the Organ.

At the age of 9, Jan Elsenaar started taking formal lessons with Nic Van Egdom followed by Dr. Oostenbrink. After immigrating to South Africa in 1985, he continued his studies at the University of the Free State with the renowned Prof. Deon Lamprecht. He also started an organ builder's workshop in Bloemfontein and later in Johannesburg.

In 1992, he established his own organ building company in the Free State region where he has buid a number of organs. He is also responsible for tuning and maintaining over 175 pipe organs. His services as organ advisor take him throughout South Africa.
Jan Elsenaar has built up a fine reputation as a concert organist. His main focus and what is dear to his heart is improvising on familiar psalms, hymns and sacred melodies. His organ talent especially shines in this area. Presently there are 4 CD's with these improvisations recorded. He also accompanies local choirs, dedicates new organs, speaks at many organist conventions and has player for art festivals.
