Description: | Jean-Charles Gandrille (b. 1982) — Gymnopédie, op. 52 (2016) for organ
French composer and organist Jean-Charles Gandrille (b. 1982) was educated at the Conservatoire National de Région de Versailles and the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris (where he studied organ with Marie-Louise Langlais.) Further study followed at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he studied with Thierry Escaich, Philippe Lefebvre, Eric Lebrun, and Jean-Louis Florentz. He won prizes in a large number of organ, improvisation, and composition competitions. As a composer, he sees his work drawing on the French tradition of color, lyricism and rhythm; to this he has also added influence from his work in silent films, sacred music, minimalism (both European and American), and interests in the rhythmic languages of music of the Balkans and Africa. The Qatar Philharmonic premiered and recorded his Violin Concerto and Minimalist-Concerto (for piano, organ, and orchestra).
