Description: | Kris Oelbrandt, OCSO (b. 1972) — Interlude, op. 18, no. 1 (2008) for organ
Belgian composer Kris Oelbrandt, OCSO (b. 1972) was born in Sint-Gillis-Waas and was educated in composition at the Academy of Music, Drama, and Dance in Sint-Niklaas, the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. His principal teachers included Willem Kersters, Wim Hendrickx, and Rafaël d’Haene. Oelbrandt received much recognition and success as a composer, including the commissions and premieres of significant orchestral and chamber works. In 2002, he became a trappist monk, and after five years of compositional silence began to write music again: beginning first with some organ music for his own monastery and then eventually leading to works in a number of genres, including his large-scale “Spring Oratorio” and “Ignatius Cantata.”
