Description:
Here is my Halloween piece, and a scary piece it is!!!

Louis-Nicolas Séjan (1786-1849) was the son of Nicolas Séjan, one of the foremost organists of his day.

He succeeded his father as organist at the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris and at the Invalides.

When the Chapel Royal was closed in 1830, he lost his position as organist. In 1848, his salary at Saint-Sulpice was so reduced that he was forced to resign. He left Paris in March 1848 and died soon after at the age of 63.

His "Prélude et Fugue sur le Kyrie du Ier ton de Henry Du Mont" is a highly dramatic work, that makes good use of the full resources of the St. Max organ.

When you hear this, you'll see that it isn't "too far" until we arrive at a composer like Guilmant. This work immediately brings to mind the opening movement of his great C Minor Sonata.

I hope you'll visit me by clicking on the link for "The Barde" at the top of the page, and I hope you'll post a scary piece in honor of the day!
