Description: | This piece is for curiosity: The composer is Martin Radeck, born in Flensburg around 1640, organist in Copenhagen from 1660 to his death in 1684. This fuga comes from a manuscript collection by Johann Valentin Meder. Born 1649 in Wasungen, Thuringia, Meder worked as cantor in Reval, Danzig, Königsberg, and Riga, where he died in 1719. On his travels he asked musicians he met to compose a piece of music for his "autograph book" (like girls who collected or still collect a few words from their friends). The autograph book is lost, but a few pages have survived in the French National Library in Paris. Among the music are four bars by Dietrich Buxtehude and also this fugue by Radeck. As it is 75 bars long, there must have been a closer relationship between both musicians.
Klaus Beckmann made a transcription from German organ tabulature and contributed the history around the piece. |
