Description: | Dom Paul Benoit (1893–1979) — Sortie “Ite missa est — Alléluia” (1943) for organ
Dom Paul Benoit, OSB (1893–1979) was a French composer, organist, and Benedictine monk. From 1919 until his death, he spent his entire life at the Abbey of Clervaux (in Luxembourg) where he served as organist and composed a large quantity of musical works. Several collections of his music were published during his lifetime, though they represented only a small fraction of his total output. Since his death, the abbey has continued to edit and release his organ compositions. Benoit’s stated his stylistic inspiration came from Bach, Vierne, Debussy, and Ravel. Most of his works were based on Gregorian chant. His organ works are notable for forming the largest body of organ music to display distinct style influence from the early 20th century “French impressionism” exemplified by Debussy and Ravel.
