The Pavana (Pavyon) of "Master" Newman is the oldest English Pavan for a keyboard instrument (1560 - British Museum Add. 30513). This Pavan is included in the "Mulliner Book". The piece is in four different sections of six bars (except the second one of seven bars) with a refrain for each sections. The writing is for four voices; the counterpoint parts is very dense and well written. The tonality of c minor is very rare for a piece from Renaissance time and the cadenza of a "sesta eccedente" (A flat - C - F sharp) in the end of the Pavana is really very dissonant and modern.
