Help needed: Hymn tune by Ira D. Sankey

These days we spoke about a hymn tune by Ira David Sankey (1840-1908), which is used in our hymn book (arrangement by Werner Paulus) together with the text of Arno Pötzsch (1900-1956) "Das Jahr geht hin, nun segne du".

Now we need some help: Could someone please tell me the original text and/or the tune name by which we may search for a hymn prelude for use in the divine service?

Thank you very much in advance, and Happy New Year!

I searched the following page without success according to the text and the incipit (which sounds like 5333. None of those match, though there is one slightly similar melody. There are a lot of tunes without incipts, and maybe one of those is the correct one?

Good luck.

If it is of interest for anyone:

The mystery is solved. The song titel is "Room for Jesus" (first stanza "Hast thou no room within thy heart" (Author: John Henry Yates)

In our hymn book the melodie is "smoothed out" (plain quarter notes) and the first line of the chorus is slightly differtent, but overall it is the same melodie line.

Thanks for all help!

Hi Oliver,

I already figured the melody has probably been worked on. I wonder didn't Werner Paulus already tell you he made a new setting of that Sankey gospel hymn?

In any case this means there are no preludes on the NAC version. You could ask Mr Paulus for one :-)

The original is rare, I did not find any preludes on this. I wonder how they came up with this and the idea to have a modern poem with it. :-)

Best wishes,
Michael
