Thomas Preston is probably the earliest (d. 1559) I know of.

Great, Adri. Really helpful to search IMSLP for compositions of these composers.
Two additions:
One for the 'Late Baroque to Classical' group: Sir William Herschel. Just like Handel born in Germany, but he became a British citizen and Sir in his youth.
One for the 'High Baroque' Group: Daniel Purcell.

AS I recorded some of his music and uploaded it on CCH, I found he was born in ROmania (Transylvania). Thanks again for this list. Perhaps you could add some great anonymous (or not) books or collections as the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, The RObertsbridge MS (XIVth c.), Elizabeth ROgers book.... they are all very important scores in the english repertoire.

Hi Adri,

You could also add the following composers (including another Wesley!):

John Redford d.1547
Thomas Tallis. (c.1505-1585)
William Blitheman (c.1525-1591)
William Brown (d.1637)
John Hingeston (c.1610-1683)
Charles Burney (1726-1814)
James Hook (1746-1827)
Charles Wesley (1757-1834)
Matthew Camidge (1758-1844)

Also, in the first group, Late Reaissance to Early Baroque, I think there is a typo

Richard Portman (not Tichard!)
