Tablet or monitor to read music pdf files?

Need advice, tips, experiences, etc.

Not sure I can run Hauptwerk and read pdf files on a separate monitor (my main monitor is touch screen, so I need that all the time); and an independent tablet is of course easier, but they are still kind of small as far as I am concerned.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

RE: Tablet or monitor to read music pdf files?

I bought my tablet a year ago and I couldn't live without it. I can turn pages by winking, moving my jaw or turning my face. I was unable to turn pages before due to dry skin. I even stopped performing in public because of it. I have a new iPad with a 12.9" screen and I can read it perfectly without glasses. Whenever I go to a concert I see performers using tablets, even in major orchestras and soloists in front of an orchestra. They are everywhere now. Completely reliable and hugely helpful for organizing collections of scores.

For playing the organ it's the best, you never have to stop the music to turn a page. It is easy to make notes on a page. I have trouble writing, but I can type into text boxes to include registration, fingering, etc. I can list registration for different organs by colour, etc

I strongly recommend it.

I would like to add that you need an iPad Pro from 2018 with the ForScore software. In order to turn the pages by blinking or mouth gestures, you also have to take out an annual subscription. But the 10 euros are well spent. I can no longer imagine playing the organ without a tablet.

I warmly second TF1972 answer : Ipad Pro 12'9 + Forscore is stil better than I could have imagined.

ForScore sounds really interesting.

How still do have to keep your head when you _don't_ want to turn the page? Do you train it to react to a specific gesture?

Yes, Forscore can be trained to react to a gesture of your own choice.

I first tried with eye blinking or head turning but it produced some unwanted turns.

Finally I adopted that :
inflating right cheek to turn forward
inflating left cheek to turn backwards.
It works fairly well like that, unless one chews some candy or chewing-gum while playing :-).

Forscore allows also, if the user wants, to turn half page by half page. You play page 1 ; when you reach somewhere after the middle of page 1, you command a page turn and then the screen displays the bottom half of page 1 and the upper half of page 2. When you reach page 2, you command a turn and the screen displays the complete page 2, etc. It's quite comfortable.
