Prelude and Fugue No. 6, Opus 1025

From the composer: "This cycle of nine preludes and fugues (2011/13) explores this familiar genre in a variety of manifestations. The preludes explore varied musical characters, serving as foils for their fugues. The fugues likewise take different approaches to the formal structure; no two follow the same plan.

Prelude and Fugue No. 6 (2013) is dedicated to Sara Bareilles. In the prelude, outer sections of motoric 16th notes surround a brief, anthem-like middle section. The fugue employs a simple song form, with a lush ballad in the outer sections, surrounding a contrapuntal excursion in the middle."
