Partita on “O Heiland, reiß die Himmel auf” (2021) was written for organist Philip Hartmann in celebration of the dedication of the new choir organ in Ulm Cathedral, Ulm Germany. The instrument was built in 2021 by Orgelbau Kuhn of Switzerland. The partita is based on a familiar German Advent chorale, “O Savior, tear open the heavens,” a text attributed to Frederick Spee (published 1622) with an anonymous tune, perhaps written for the text. |
