Gustav Adolf Merkel (1827-1885) was a German organist, composer and music educator. His organ compositions were among the most frequently performed works in the second half of the 19th century.

This is a very short piece from his Opus 179, but I like the harmonies that develop from chromatic descents, and it's a good way to demonstrate the wonderfully soft and warm principals and strings of the Schwerin Ladegast organ.
