Präludium D-Dur Op. 12 Nr. 2 Uploaded by: Romanus Composer: Albrechtsberger, Johann Georg Organ: Schwerin, Dom, Ladegast-Orgel Software: Hauptwerk VIII Views: 52
Music from the late 18th century also sounds authentic on the Schwerin Cathedral organ:
Johann Georg Albrechtsberger (1734-1809) was an Austrian composer, organist and music theorist and was considered one of the best counterpuntists of his time.
By the way he was also a teacher of Ludwig van Beethoven.
I always play this prelude when I try out an organ for the first time and I always play it with the same registration:
"Small Plenum," meaning principals 8'+4'+2'+mixture, and finally the bass part in the pedal with 16'+8'+4'+pedal coupler.
I call this my "Albrechtsberger Test." If this piece already sounds full with this rather slim registration, then the organ has completely won me over. Only a few organs pass this test, one of them is the Schwerin Cathedral organ.
