This piece is chorale and variation on "Jesu, bleibet meine Freude". The choral is found as the last movement in JS Bach's cantata "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" (BWV 147), where it is called "Jesus bleibet meine Freude". However, Bach did not compose the melody of the chorale. The composer was Johann Schop who was a German violinist and composer (1590 - 1667). The original title of the melody is "Werde munter, mein Gemüthe".
This performance is a version composed by the South African organist and composer, Albert Troskie.
