Description:
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975) — Cathédrale (1955) for organ

Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975) is widely considered one of the most significant composers of the 20th century and is the most widely-known composer of the Soviet era of Russian history. Shostakovich’s turbulent and complex relationship with the musical culture and establishment of the USSR was the dominant theme of his professional career. His musical style blends elements of classicism and romanticism into a language very much of the 20th century. His output as composer includes his cycle of 15 varied symphonies and 15 string quartets along with much other chamber music, piano music, and three significant operas. He also scored more than 35 films spanning his entire career.
