The melody of the hymn was originally written in 1848 by the Hamburg composer Friedrich Pacius (1809-1891), who had moved to Finland, to the text of Vårt land from Johan Ludvig Runeberg's Fähnrich Stahl. The same melody became the Finnish national anthem in 1917.
The Estonian text of the anthem was written by Johann Voldemar Jannsen. In combination with Pacius' melody, the song was sung at the great Estonian singing festival in 1869, which had a central significance for the awakening Estonian national consciousness. With independence Mu isamaa became the national anthem in 1920.
We hear the strongly chromatic song movement, which crosses the baroque borders, on the main work, which is coupled with the positive. Then follows the fugue performed on the manual of the positive, and the final song movement, where we hear the full baroque organ of Strassburg - tutti!
