Description:
Graham writes of this beautiful chorale prelude:
"On 2 October 2020, Dr Francis Jackson celebrated his 103rd birthday (having been Organist and Director of Music at York Minster for 36 years from 1946 - 1982). I once turned pages for him at an organ recital he gave at my school in the 1970s when I was a teenager - an experience forever etched into my memory as I was privileged to observe at close quarters the great master playing the King of Instruments.
In September of this year, the American organist, Kiel Krommer, asked me to write an organ prelude on Dr Jackson's wonderful hymn tune, "East Acklam", to mark the special occasion of his birthday and his remarkable longevity. Of course, Dr Jackson has himself written a most beautiful Prelude on his own hymn tune, but I happily set to work on the task as requested - as inferior as is my composition in comparison to Dr Jackson's own Prelude! I am greatly honoured to have been given permission by Dr Jackson to incorporate "East Acklam" into my short Chorale Prelude: a tribute I wanted to pay to a truly amazing gentleman.

Francis Jackson (b. Malton, Yorkshire, England, 1917) wrote EAST ACKLAM in 1957 at York Minster Abbey, where he had a long and distinguished career as organist and music master (1946-1982). The tune's name refers to the hamlet northeast of York, England, where Jackson has lived since 1982. Jackson received his early musical training at the York Minster School, later studied with Edward Bairstow, and received his doctorate from Durham University (1940). From 1947 to 1980 he conducted both the York Musical Society and the York Symphony Orchestra. He has published a wide array of organ and church music and was very popular as an organ recitalist.

I follow the chorale with a lively take on "For the fruits of His creation" (words in the first comment)

I have been spending more time with Hereford and just discovered the Gt-Solo coupler (even though I've used the set for years!)
