Description:
I recently ran across a recording of “Variations on a Medieval Carol” by Robert Hebble and became captivated with it. I posted my interest in finding a copy of this permanently out of print work in the Facebook Organists’ Association page and heard back almost immediately from Jackson Borges, who graciously supplied me with a copy.

This charming work is more neo-classical in nature than many of Hebble’s works and it benefits from being paired with an instrument with similar leanings. The Sonus Paradisi Hauptwerk sample set of the 1995 Casavant Frères organ (Opus 3742) in the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, Washington was the choice in this case.

Here is a list of just a few of the very attractive tonal personalities on display in this recording:
articulate and colorful flutes
beautiful string and flute celestes
a sexy baroque style tremulant for the 16’ Douçaine.
A very colorful Trompette en Chamade.

Some convolution reverb is added to the mix.

(You might want to consider the rather extreme dynamic range present in this recording when you set the volume level .)

Although I thought this work was permanently out of print, I just discovered that it is now available in a new collection from Alfred Music called "Favorite Hymns for Organ." It is also available in digital form through Google Books
