Dextera Domini, C. Franck, Organ Solo

Arthur Dodement, a French organist at the church of Saint Louis en l’Ile, Paris, transcribed Franck’s Dextera Domini for the organ. However, I have yet to hear a rendition of his transcription. Is there another transcription out there? Has anyone ever attempted to interpret it?

Hi Domino.

I've done the motet many times, and I'll try to make a recording of the solo for you!

Peace, David

Thank you very much David! Dextera Domini is such a powerful and inspiring composition, one that truly speaks to the souls of mankind. There is no doubt you will further elevate it as you seem to have such a talent for playing French organ music.

Hi Domino.

OK, I've done it, and I'll upload it in just a bit.

I don't think it works as well as a solo as it does as a motet, but I hope that you like it. It's not what I'd call a "great piece," but I think it can be VERY moving when it's well sung. It's a very memorable sort of thing.

Although I know the piece well, the organ solo version is very different, as it has cuts, etc. Also, I remember looking at this once and rejecting it, as I couldn't decide whether I should play the arrangement, or just play the anthem, which could be done as a solo.

In the end, I did it pretty much the way it's arranged, although I played it as I would have a choir sing it, using "Anglican ways," but with full respect of the French sounds and style.

I'm glad that I was able to do it, and I hope you like it! :-)

Peace,

David
