Andrew Charles Newcombe (b. 1970) — Mantra 53 (2004) for organ
Andrew Charles Newcombe (b. 1970) was born in Melbourne, Australia and moved to the UK in 1996. Educated at the University of Melbourne; Monash University; Trinity College, London; and St. Stephen’s House, Oxford, he has worked as a professional musician in both classical and popular music and is now a priest for the Church of England (most recently for Holy Trinity, Hoxton). As a composer, he has written many works, with a particular focus on organ pieces. His 60 “mantras” (1990–2004) for organ form a large scale series of pieces. Newcombe's music has been performed throughout the world, and organist David Hamnes has recorded a CD of early entries from the Mantra series.
