Description:
Flemming Chr. Hansen (b. 1968) — Hymner (1993) for organ

1. Dyrets Magt – Kærlighedens Pant
2. Himmelhelten – Løvemod
3. Thi evig eet er Liv og Aand

“Hymner” (1993) was written for the Danish organist Jesper Madsen (1957–1999) to premiere on the final inauguration concert of the new Ramus organ (a small instrument) in the Klosterkirken in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark. Each movement is based on a hymn melody from “Det danske antifonale.”

Danish composer and organist Flemming Chr. Hansen (b. 1968) was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and has held several church positions in Denmark. He has concertized across Denmark and has taught organ at several institutions. As a composer, he has written works in many genres, including a large scale cycle of organ suites entitled “In lumine Domini” that combines contemporary minimalist and open form techniques with the parameters of organ service music.
