I first heard this piece as a demo for the sample set of the Sauer-organ in Dortmund. And it really should be played on an organ like that one. But since I don't own that sample set, I play it on the neo-baroque organ of Kaat & Tijhuis. That organ has a Cromorne that works really well in this piece. But of course, it lacks in swell-box, strings and all the rich romantic colours that the Sauer-organ in Dortmundt provides. So, I had to use all the trickery of a 4 feet stop played an octave lower, 16 feet stop played an octave higher etc. If I ever own the sample set of Dortmunt, or the upcoming sample set of the Walcker-organ in Doesburg, I'll try this piece again. Because it is one of the most beautifull pieces for organ, that I know off. Harmonically simple, but terribly effective.
