Christopher M. Wicks (b. 1975) — Prelude and Fugue for Lavona Bunting (2010/13) for organ
Christopher M. Wicks (b. 1975) was educated at the University of Montreal, the Eastman School of Music, and Marylhurst University. He is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists and has composed a large number of works in all forms.
The composer writes the following about this work: "Lavona Bunting was a dear friend who lived in my hometown. Lavona took an interest in the musical career of my childhood and youth, coming to hear me sing in the opera when I was a treble, and to many other events while her health permitted. She asked the most interesting questions, and I found her support encouraging, fair weather or in darker times. Lavona wrote poetry which was clever and heart-felt, and was well-read and well-informed without vanity. My 'Prelude and Fugue' in memory of her is a kind of musical portrait, using soggetto cavato to make a fugue subject."
