The Great trumpet spins a languorous melody over rippling principals: a flute and a clarinet take up the tune: the trumpet returns with nocturnal musings: a tempestuous and wildly chromatic bridge leads back to the reprise: a sub-plagal inauthentic minor-major cadence brings the piece to a close.
