Waldemar Åhlén (1894–1982) — Agnus Dei (1970) for organ
Waldemar Åhlén (1894–1982) was a Swedish organist and composer. He served as organist at St. Jacob’s Church in Stockholm from 1928–71 and was also a singing teacher and musical consultant for the Stockholm school system. In addition to many musical compositions (especially keyboard and choral music), Åhlén also produced a number of pedagogical publications on the subject of choral singing and training. His choral piece “Sommarpsalm” (a setting of an old folk song) is one of the most beloved works of all Swedish choral music.
(The organ of St. Jacob’s Church is a large Marcussen, on which Åhlen made several recordings of his own music both during his tenure and after his retirement.)
