With the "Mid-day Recitals" strarting tomorrow, I've been trying out a few modest pieces. I don't want to "over program" without knowing my audience - IF there is any at all...
This is one of those trial pieces...
"Chant du matin", "composed" by the famous Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911) reads: "On 25 August, 1893 inboard of the ship "La Bourgogne" created en route to the United States." It is subtitled "Bluette," which I THINK means "bluewater."
Whether or not it was improvised, it is "pour orgue de salon," but works even better on a "grand orgue". It is a delightul little "scherzo," and reminds me of a sea chanty, or some such whimisical thing.
