Description:
Michael Canales (b. 1963) — Solemn Postlude in G minor (2012) for organ

“Solemn Postlude in G minor” (2012) is a piece inspired by the short orchestral preludes, interludes, and postludes in the operas of Verdi, a composer with whom Canales has much experience through his work in opera.

Michael Canales (b. 1963) has received major grants from organizations such as the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation, and the Nevada Arts Council for his work as a composer and conductor. He has composed music in many genres including opera and symphonic works. As a conductor, Canales specializes in opera, and he has conducted the works of Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, and Wagner, as well as much other standard repertoire. He was the founder and director of Pasadena Lyric Opera for seven seasons. Canales is also an accomplished classical guitarist, as well as a pianist, organist, and percussionist.
