Description: | For notes on Boëllmann's life, see No. 1! :-)
This is a very haunting piece, which again, seems to show Boëllmann's unique harmonic style.
The piece, in the key of C minor, and marked "Andantino," features long pedal points, a somewhat "modal" melody, and more chromatic chords in the left hand, played staccato, almost like a slow ostinato.
Once again, Rowley's suggestions are for an English organ, and they would not work on a French one!
Rather than use a "solo stop," I've used the Flute Harmonique and Bourdon of the Grand Orgue, coupled to the Voix celeste of the Recit, and occasionally one or two of the soft 8's from the Positif.
The accompaniment as always on the Recit, except for one phrase where it moves to the Positif, to add in the "effect" of a crescendo.
There is magical sadness to this piece. It's very hypnotic... |
