Description: | In this little work, "Our heavenly Father, hear," Belgian organist and composer Flor Peeters (1903-1986) shows his genius for "copying the style" of Bach.
The work is based on Samuel Howard's hymntune, "St. Bride" (Brigdet), and the text given is:
Our heavenly Father, hear
The prayer we offer now.
Thy Name be hallowed far and near;
To Thee all nations bow.
James Montgomery (1835)
I know this tune to several other texts, including, "Lord Jesus, think on me."
As to "imitating" Bach, Peeters sets the tune in the pedal, played on a 4' reed and principal, with the bass being played on the 16, 8 & 4 of the Bovenwerk, and the DELIGHTFUL obligato being played on the flutes of the Rugwerk at 8, 4, & 1 1/3.
THANKS to Jonathan Orwig (giwro) for a copy of the score... :-) |
