“Crystalline” (2014) was written for Carson Cooman during the intense and long winter of 2014. The piece’s main theme could be seen almost as a small ice crystal, changing and shifting color and shape as it rotates through the piece (in various modes).
American composer Mary Montgomery Koppel (b. 1982) was educated at Middlebury College and Boston University; she has taught at Bennington College, Boston University, and the Walnut Hill School for the Arts. Koppel was a founding member and composer in residence of Boston’s Lorelei Ensemble. Koppel has also written choral, vocal, chamber, and orchestral pieces.
