Steve Hackett (1950) is an English composer and a guitarist. He gained prominence as lead guitarist of the British Progressive group Genesis, which he joined in 1970 and left in 1977 to pursue a solo career. The recent works of Hackett were concentred on the classical compositions dedicated to the guitar; this work is culminated in two masterpieces for guitar and orchestra: “Midsummer Night’s Dream” (1997) and Metamorpheus (2005).
"Hands of the Priestess" (1975) is took from the first solo album by Hackett "Voyage of the Acolyte"; the tracks of this album are named after, or with reference to, the minor and Major Trumps of the Tarot card deck.
"Hands of the Priestess" (The Hight Priestess) is also reported to Galadriel, from Lord of the Rings. The piece (with a very impressionistic atmosphere), originally, was for flute and guitar; here is performed in a transcription by Marco Lo Muscio.
