Description: | This is the 5th and final movement of "Sussex" Variations, A Carol Suite for Organ by Franklin D. Ashdown.
This movement is one that I was almost certain I wouldn't be able to learn. There were so many huge chords in both left and right hands, something I'm not used to playing, especially without having any background in piano. And then there was the pace that was required, which made it all that much more difficult, but somehow I managed, and now I'm preparing to play the entire suite in a Christmas program, where the choir will sing the four verses of the carol, most likely interspersed with the movements of the suite. Unfortunately I'll be playing a more than 10-year old, 2-manual Allen.
The first part is played on the Rugwerk, beginning by adding the 16' Quintadeen, and then removing it in the 5th measure at the fermata. In the second half, the right hand moves to the Hoofdwerk, and is joined by the left, but only for the final chord following the glissando.
Here's the registration:
Rugwerk (I):
- Praestant 8'
- Octaaf 4'
- Octaaf 2'
- Mixtuur 6-8 st.
- Scherp 4-6 st.
Hoofdwerk (II):
- Mixtuur 8-10 st.
- Scherp 6-8 st.
- Trompett 8'
Chamadewerk (on II):
- Trompeta Magna 16' D
- Trompeta Brillante 8' B + D
- Trompeta de Batalla 8' B + D
- Clarin Fuerte 4' B + D
- Clarin 2' B
Pedaal:
- Preaestant 32'
- Octaaf 16'
- Octaaf 8'
- Octaaf 4'
- Mixtuur 10 st.
- Bazuin 16'
- Fagot 16'
- Trompet 8'
- Pedaal to Rugwerk
Although it isn't stated in the specifications, apparently the Chamaadwerk plays on II. I don't think I noticed this until after updating the sample set to version 1.20. |
