I am pretty sure that most of you do not know this Passacaglia composed by Mendelssohn at an age of only 14. I would call it a rather frenetic composition which might simply be related to his young age.
It is amazing how close it comes to its obvious inspiration BWV 582 in many aspects. On the other hand, there are elements which can be found again in Mendelssohn`s late Sonatas.
15 years ago, this was one of my favorite peaces. Maybe I will re-record it some time when I do not have to turn all 11 pages on my own ;-)
